DVD News: April 18, 2006
HD DVD has arrived in the United States, although I was unable to locate any players in stock at any of the retailers in my area. It is my understanding that the Toshiba player, which seems to be typically priced at $499.99, has at the moment been sold out most places. However, one major national retail chain claims they will be getting more in a week or two. I found only two movies for sale on the shelves, namely The Last Samurai and The Phantom of the Opera. I saw a price of $19.99 for each of them at one discount store. Million Dollar Baby is scheduled to be released on HD DVD on April 20.
