June 23, 2009 - New DVD and Video Releases:
'Confessions of a Shopaholic' DVD
Isla Fisher stars in this comedy based on popular novels by Sophie Kinsella. Fisher plays Rebecca Bloomwood, a journalist who's a lovable ditz addicted to shopping, particularly for Gucci, Prada and the like. With thousands of dollars in credit-card debt, she loses her job and must quickly find another. That's how she ends up writing a column about practicing frugality for a personal finances magazine run by handsome Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy). Rebecca's column is a hit, and she and Luke start to fall for each other, but she fears the truth about her will come out.
'Inkheart' DVD
Based on the children's novel by Cornelia Funke, this fantasy-adventure stars Brendan Fraser. Mo Folchart (Fraser) has a special gift: when he reads aloud from a novel, its fictional characters come to life in the real world. The downside is that some real-life person migrates into the novel's world. And Mo and his 12-year-old daughter must deal with other problems. A villain named Capricorn (Andy Serkis) and a guy called Dustfinger (Paul Bettany) want to use Mo's gift for their own purposes. The film goes back and forth between the real world and a medieval-like fantasy world.
'The Pink Panther 2' DVD
Steve Martin returns as Inspector Clouseau, the bumbling French policeman, in this sequel to The Pink Panther (2006). Emily Mortimer and Jean Reno are also back, while John Cleese replaces Kevin Kline as Dreyfus. This time around national treasures such as the Magna Carta, the Shroud of Turin and the Japanese Imperial Sword are being stolen. An international law enforcement dream team is formed, and somehow Clouseau gets on it. Other team members are played by Andy Garcia, Alfred Molina and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Lily Tomlin is also in the movie.
