This poignant, intelligent, low-keyed drama stars Julie Christie and features a fine performance by Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent. Grant (Pinsent) and Fiona (Christie) are a devoted couple who have been married for 44 mostly good years. But Fiona grows concerned about her worsening Alzheimer's and checks herself into an assisted-living facility. There she forms a close relationship with one of the residents, a man who does not speak, and Grant struggles to figure out how he should deal with the situation. But Ben falls for Mrs. Robinson's daughter Elaine (Katharine Ross), and the movie ends enigmatically with Ben and Elaine riding a public bus toward an uncertain future. The Starter Wife DVD

Based on the best-selling novel by Gigi Levangie Grazer (wife of big-time producer Brian Grazer), this was a TV miniseries that aired on the USA Network in 2007 and was nominated for seven Emmy Awards. The title character is Molly (Debra Messing), the privileged fortyish wife of a studio mogul who dumps her for a young pop diva. Molly moves to a gated community in Malibu, but finds herself a pariah in her old social circles and has to rebuild her life. Others appearing in The Starter Wife include Judy Davis, Joe Mantegna, Miranda Otto and Anika Noni Rose.
