June 3, 2008 - New DVD Releases:

The Eye DVD

Tagline: "You won't believe her eyes."

Length: 98 minutes
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for violence/terror and disturbing content

Jessica Alba stars in this horror movie, a remake of a Hong Kong film by the Pang brothers. Sydney Wells (Alba) is a concert violinist who was blinded in an accident when she was five years old. She gets a cornea transplant, and her vision begins to return, but she sees strange and disturbing things. At first, her sister (Parker Posey) believes Sydney is simply having trouble adjusting, as does Dr. Paul Faulkner (Alessandro Nivola). But when it starts to seem as though her problems may have something to do with the eye donor, Sydney and Faulkner go to Mexico to investigate.

Meet the Spartans DVD

Length: The theatrical version is 84 minutes long. The unrated version of this movie is 87 minutes long.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for crude and sexual content throughout, language and some comic violence (Please note: an unrated version of this movie is also available on DVD.)

A parody of the film 300, this comedy was written and directed by the same team that did Date Movie and Epic Movie. Here, Leonidas (Sean Maguire), king of Sparta, leads 13 men against the large invading army of Xerxes (Ken Davitian from Borat). The scantily clad, campy Spartan soldiers do things like skip and sing "I Will Survive." Meanwhile, back in Sparta, sexy Queen Margo (Carmen Electra) does what she can to support her husband. The film, which is awash in product promotion, features celebrity look-alikes and references to other recent movies and TV shows.

Semi-Pro DVD

Length: 90 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for language and some sexual content (An unrated version of this movie is also available on DVD.)

Will Ferrell and Woody Harrelson star in this sports comedy set in the world of professional basketball. It's 1976, and Jackie Moon (Ferrell) is the owner of the Flint (Michigan) Tropics, a struggling American Basketball Association team. Jackie also coaches, plays forward and does goofy stunts to try to boost attendance. He also acquires Ed Monix (Harrelson), an over-the-hill veteran player. There is already one really good player (André Benjamin of OutKast) on the Tropics, and eventually the team improves. Will Arnett is amusing as the team's sportscaster.
