There are some interesting video/DVD releases slated for next week, including Awake, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium and Into the Wild. Let's take a look at these movies on DVD and video, along with some additional releases of interest.

March 4, 2008 - New DVD Releases:

Awake DVD

Tagline: "Every year, one in 700 people wakes up during surgery. When they planned her husband's murder, they never thought he'd be the one."

Length: 84 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for language, an intense disturbing situation, and brief drug use

Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba star in this thriller that contains some gory surgery scenes. Clayton Beresford Jr. (Christensen) is a wealthy young man in need of a heart transplant. Immediately after marrying Sam Lockwood (Alba), he has the surgery done by Dr. Jack Harper (Terrence Howard). Clay's new wife and also his domineering mother (Lena Olin) await the outcome as he is operated on, but he is one of those people who remains aware of everything when under anesthesia. He hears and feels what's going on, and he imagines himself roaming the hospital.

Into the Wild DVD
Length: 140 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for language and some nudity

Written and directed by Sean Penn and featuring a fine performance by Emile Hirsch, this drama is adapted from the nonfiction bestseller by Jon Krakauer. The story is about a young man named Chris McCandless (Hirsch) who becomes estranged from his affluent parents (Marcia Gay Harden and William Hurt). After graduating Emory University, Chris severs ties with his family and goes on the road for two years, meeting eccentric people and having unusual experiences. But his odyssey comes to an end when he dies after living alone for a few months in the Alaska wilderness.

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium DVD

Tagline: "You have to believe it to see it."

Length: 93 minutes
MPAA Rating: G

Dustin Hoffman and Natalie Portman star in this family movie, a fantasy centering on a magical toy store. After owning and operating the store for over a century, the 243-year-old Mr. Magorium (Hoffman) has decided it's time for him to leave the world. He's hoping young Molly Mahoney (Portman) will take over, but she has her doubts about being able to handle it. Eric (Zach Mills), a nine-year-old who hangs out at the emporium, narrates the story. Thrown into this mix is a literal-minded accountant (Jason Bateman), who is supposed to bring the store's books up to date.
