If you were a paid Netflix subscriber prior to January 15, 2005, you are probably eligible to receive either a free month of service or a free one-month upgrade because of a class-action lawsuit settlement. However, if you wish to claim the class benefit, you should probably sign up no later than June 26, 2006. You begin the process of making a claim at www.netflix.com/settlement. It turns out I am one of a few million people eligible to receive a benefit, and I went to that Web site recently and put in my claim. Although I had forgotten my Netflix password, making the claim was still relatively easy. At this writing, it is not known when the class benefits will actually become available, but Netflix is supposed to notify benefit recipients via email when that date is set.
