"The Last Waltz" DVD

By Ivana Redwine, About.com

Martin Scorsese directed “The Last Waltz” (1978), which is generally considered the standard against which other rock documentaries must be compared. The movie centers around The Band’s farewell concert, which took place at San Francisco’s Winterland in 1976. Made up of four Canadians (Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel) and one American (Levon Helm), The Band does 12 songs. In addition, there’s a star-studded array of guest performers that includes Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Emmylou Harris, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Joni Mitchell, and Neil Young.
