"Land of the Dead" DVD
Writer-director George A. Romero continues his series of horror movies that includes "Night of the Living Dead" (1968), "Dawn of the Dead" (1978) and "Day of the Dead" (1985). "Land of the Dead," which stars Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Asia Argento and Dennis Hopper, takes place in a fortified city surrounded by zombies. The zombies have grown smarter, and they constitute a continual threat to the city dwellers, who have evolved a peculiar class system for dealing with the situation.
"House of Wax" DVD
Elisha Cuthbert and Chad Michael Murray star in this horror movie, which shares its title and a creepy idea with a 1953 film starring Vincent Price. That idea is that likenesses of people can be created for a wax museum by putting a waxy coating over human bodies. In the 2005 movie, six young adults are driving to a football game when they camp out in the boondocks. They end up in a weird hamlet where they encounter a couple of psychopaths, and Paris Hilton is shown in red lingerie.
"The Amityville Horror" DVD
This horror film is a remake of a 1979 movie that starred James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Rod Steiger. In the 2005 film, George (Ryan Reynolds), his wife Kathy (Melissa George) and her three kids by an earlier marriage move to a big Long Island house. They bought the place cheap because a previous resident murdered his family there. Soon creepy things start happening, and the house seems haunted. As George's behavior becomes increasingly menacing, Kathy tries to figure out what to do.
"Hide and Seek" DVD
Robert De Niro and child actress Dakota Fanning are the stars of this thriller. After his wife's suicide, David Callaway (De Niro) and his young daughter Emily (Fanning) move to a big house in the country. There Callaway befriends a local woman (Elisabeth Shue), while Emily comes up with an apparently imaginary friend called Charlie. Soon creepy things begin happening around the house, and Emily blames them on Charlie, leading to a twist ending.
"The Ring Two" DVD
This horror movie is the sequel to "The Ring" (2002), and Naomi Watts and David Dorfman are back. This time around, Rachel Keller (Watts) and her young son Aidan (Dorfman) have moved from Seattle to a small town in Oregon. However, the ghost of Samara, the murdered girl seen crawling out of a well in the cursed videotape, follows them. Soon water pours out of various places, undead deer are seen, and Samara's ghost tries to take over Aidan's body.
"Cursed" DVD
Directed by Wes Craven, this horror movie is about werewolves. A young adult woman (Christina Ricci) and her teenage brother (Jesse Eisenberg) are driving in Los Angeles one night when they hit something. In the aftermath, they are bitten by an animal. Soon they find their behavior changing, and they realize they are turning into werewolves. The siblings' only hope for a normal life is to track down and destroy the creature that infected them.
"Boogeyman" DVD
In this horror movie, 20-something Tim Jensen (Barry Watson) is afraid of the dark. No wonder, though, since one night when he was eight, Tim witnessed his dad disappear forever into a closet, apparently being pulled by something unseen. Now, at a therapist's suggestion, Tim wants to conquer his fear of the Boogeyman and decides to spend a night in his boyhood home, where it turns out he's in for lots of spooky, supernatural goings-on.
