Wal-Mart Quitting Online DVD Rental Business

By , About.com Guide

Wal-Mart is getting out of the online DVD rental business on June 16, 2005, although their current subscribers are being offered some fairly good alternatives. The Wal-Mart subscribers will be able, if they wish, to switch over to Netflix and keep their current price for a year.

But Blockbuster is extending a special offer to current subscribers of the other two big online DVD rental services: if a Wal-Mart or a Netflix subscriber switches to the Blockbuster online DVD rental service, the subscriber will get two months of free service, a free DVD of their choice, and they'll be able to keep their former subscription rate for a year.

Turmoil continues in the DVD rental business.
