Blockbuster has entered into a legal agreement with 47 states to settle allegations its so-called No Late Fees program has been handled in a misleading manner. One consequence is that some Blockbuster customers are supposed to be eligible for refunds or credits under some conditions.
If you ended up buying DVDs or videotapes or games you had rented from Blockbuster because you kept them too long, there is supposed to be a mechanism provided for you to get your money refunded or a credit to your account if you return the items in good condition. Also, if you paid a so-called restocking fee, that could also get you a refund or credit.
Blockbuster gets to keep the No Late Fees program as is, except the company will have to be clearer in the future in informing customers about how the program actually works. In addition, Blockbuster had to pay the 47 states $630,000 to settle the case.
