Winner of awards for direction and cinematography at Sundance, this visceral Spanish-language melodrama is about Latino gangs and illegal immigrants. Casper, a member of a vicious gang in the south of Mexico, is about 18 when he meets Sayra, a Honduran teenager passing through his gang's territory as she tries to make her way north to illegally enter the US. The pair becomes a couple on the run, and the tale ends with an act of redemption. The film indelibly etches in viewers' minds the image of desperate people riding through Mexico atop freight trains.
