"Alice in Wonderland" has long been a classic in the world of literature. A story that hinges on the absurd, it does seem like the perfect material for a Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movie. Take a look at some of the characters and pictures from the movie—eccentric yet rich and beautiful.

Mia Wasikowska plays Alice, who returns to the Wonderland (actually Underland) world she once visited as a young girl in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" movie. Alice has no recollection of her previous adventure in the place she once knew as Wonderland, but she does find herself falling down the rabbit hole once again, allowing her to escape her world -- where she feels trapped by society and a less than exciting marriage proposal -- and figure out what she really wants.

Johnny Depp plays the whimsical, strange and absolutely crazy Mad Hatter in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" movie. As Alice's true friend, the Mad Hatter has been awaiting her return. He will do anything to set things right in wonderland again, but he literally is mad -- an effect of the mercury poisoning that is a side effect of the hat-making process.

Helena Bonham Carter plays the tyrannical Red Queen Iracebeth, who has taken control of Wonderland in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" movie. The Queen's big head is both literal and figurative, and her red hair is fitting as well, considering her temper. A ticking time bomb ready to go off on a tantrum at the slightest annoyance, the Red Queen is determined to rule Underland, wearing the crown she stole from her sister, the White Queen.

As we know from previous experience, the White Rabbit is always in a hurry. How many times have we heard the familiar line from the Disney "Alice in Wonderland" cartoon, "I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date!"? In the Disney/Tim Burton "Alice in Wonderland," the White Rabbit, voiced my Michael Sheen, has an important date indeed. The fussy bunny is charged with finding Alice and luring her back down the rabbit hole. Things are amiss in "Underland," and many are hoping that Alice can help set things right.

The March Hare plays host for the Mad Hatter's tea parties in Disney/Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland". He too is a little off his rocker, and a very paranoid and nervous ball of fur, but he does love hosting tea parties and cooking.

A horrible beast that terrorizes Underland, the Bandersnatch makes his mark on poor Alice in Disney's "Alice in Wonderland." Her return to Underland might have been a little more welcoming had it not been for this slobbery monster.

In Disney's "Alice in Wonderland," Ilosovic Stayne, played by Crispin Glover, is the Knave of Hearts and head of the infamous Red Queen's army. At 7 feet, six inches tall, the Knave is quite a presence. Add to that his scarred face and heart-shaped patch, and he looks like the perfect henchman. He is the Red Queen's right-hand man, and he is sinisterly proud of it.

In Disney's Tim Burton movie "Alice in Wonderland," Mallymkun the Dormouse, voiced by Barbara Windsor, is a swashbuckling force to be reckoned with. She may be tiny, but her loyalty to that Mad Hatter is great, even though she does have a few issues with Alice.
