Famed Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman died on July 30, 2007. His greatest movies include
The Seventh Seal (1956),
Wild Strawberries (1957) and
Fanny & Alexander (1982), and his last was
Saraband (2003). (Here's my list of his
top 10 films.) He directed over 50 movies, many of which explored man's search for meaning in life, given the inevitability of death. Bergman was married five times and fathered nine children. During the last four decades of his life, he lived much of the time on the small Baltic island of Faro, where he shot
Persona (1966). He was at his home on the island when he passed away at the age of 89.
