Akira Kurosawa (1910-1998) made about 30 movies over a period of 50 years, and he was a major influence on the Spielberg-Coppola-Lucas-Scorsese generation of filmmakers. But it's difficult to think of Kurosawa without Toshiro Mifune coming to mind since together they constitute what is arguably the greatest pairing of director and actor in cinema history. "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room" is one of the most entertaining and thought-provoking documentaries I've ever seen.I spoke with the filmmaker who made this fascinating movie.
Judd Apatow Interview
The hit comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," which stars Steve Carell, is being released on DVD on December 13, 2005, and I spoke with director Judd Apatow about the movie. Apatow has probably been best known in the past as a writer and director on TV series, notably "The Larry Sanders Show" and "Freaks and Geeks." "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" marks Apatow's feature directorial debut, and it's been an extraordinarily successful one, both at the box office and with the critics.

The varied cinematic vision of legendary filmmaker Luchino Visconti has never failed to amaze me. Other Visconti films I have enjoyed include "Rocco and His Brothers," "Senso," and "Death in Venice."
