The Libertine Movie Summary:
Johnny Depp stars in this biopic, adapted from the Stephen Jeffreys' stage play. Depp portrays English poet and courtier John Wilmot (1647-1680), the second Earl of Rochester. The story is set in London during the reign of King Charles II (John Malkovich). Wilmot writes satiric and bawdy poetry, and he deals with his wife (Rosamund Pike), a prostitute (Kelly Reilly) and an actress (Samantha Morton). But the earl is an unlikable character, and the film is primarily a chronicle of his downward spiral into debauchery.
