This offbeat combination of period melodrama, film noir and dark comedy features a fine cast that includes Chris Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Patricia Clarkson and Rachel McAdams. It's 1949, and Harry and Pat Allen (Cooper and Clarkson) seem to others to enjoy a comfortable marriage. But Harry falls in love with a young widow named Kay (McAdams), and he tells his pal Richard (Brosnan) that since Pat would be devastated by divorce, he plans to murder her.
