Meryl Streep and Amy Adams star in this film about two real-life women who never met, and the movie was written and directed by Nora Ephron. Julia Child (Streep) was an American who went to Paris in 1948, spent several years becoming an expert on local cuisine and in 1961 published Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She later did English-language TV shows that demystified French cuisine for millions. Julie Powell (Adams) was a Queens woman who in 2002 cooked her way through all 524 recipes in Child's cookbook and blogged about her experiences on the Internet.
