Two Worthwhile Bonus Materials

The DVD provides a feature-length scholarly audio commentary by German silent film connoisseur Lokke Heiss. His essay on the movie is extremely informative, and it enhanced my enjoyment of it enormously.

The DVD contains a fascinating special feature where Heiss takes us on a tour of the locations where Nosferatu was shot. Of particular interest are the German cities of Wismar and Lübeck. Murnau used a composite of the two to create the fictional Wisborg of the film. Heiss also goes to Slovakia and shows us Orava Castle, which was used for Count Orlok's residence in Transylvania.

An Enigmatic Film That's a Must-See for the Cinephile

I like to think of Nosferatu as a story which begins with the protagonist Hutter in a state of innocence, but he goes on a dreamlike journey that leads him to a terrible underlying reality. However, the film is enigmatic and lends itself to a variety of interpretations. In any case, this is a movie that no cinephile should miss, and I highly recommend the Image Entertainment Special Edition DVD of Nosferatu.
