Review: Ask the Dusk DVD

A Worthwhile Making-Of Featurette

Aside from the audio commentary, the only other bonus material on the DVD is a 14-minute making-of featurette. Although it's done in the standard way, there were a few things in it that caught my interest. For example, Towne tells an amusing anecdote about Fante attributing his novel's lack of commercial success to his publisher going bankrupt because of a lawsuit filed by Hitler over Mein Kampf. Another example is the construction on two football fields in Cape Town of the set where the parts of the movie taking place in downtown Los Angeles were shot.
