Deleted Scenes and Gag Reel
The DVD offers 15 deleted scenes with a total running time of about 22 minutes. These can be watched with or without audio commentary by director David Frankel and editor Mark Livolsi. The majority of the cuts were done to speed up pacing, and a couple of scenes were deleted because they set the tone wrong. The most interesting thing here is that the director was seeing most of this footage for the first time—the editor had been turned loose to make wholesale lifts and trims according to his own best judgment.
Also on the DVD is a five-minute gag reel. These are mostly outtakes that aren't all that funny, but it's probably worth watching to see the beefy guy wearing shorts and T-shirt walk the runway used by the fashion models.
Audio Commentary
The DVD provides a feature-length audio commentary with six behind-the-camera people: director David Frankel, producer Wendy Finerman, costume designer Patricia Field, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, editor Mark Livolsi and cinematographer Florian Ballhaus. The commentators all seem to just chime in whenever they feel like it. Together, they supply a wealth of detail about the movie's production. If you're interested in learning who is wearing Chanel or Dolce in which scene, or you want to know that Andy's apartment is on the Lower East Side and Emily (Emily Blunt) is treated at the Lennox Hill Hospital, or that Meryl Streep remained aloof from the rest of the cast to affect the way their characters interacted with her character, then this commentary is for you.
