Interviews With Actresses Who Appeared in James Bond Movies

The DVD set contains the interesting 49-minute documentary "Bond Girls Are Forever," which was made by American Movie Classics and has periodically aired on television. It consists of upbeat interviews with various actresses who have appeared in James Bond movies, including Ursala Andress, who set the prototype in Dr. No (1962). There's also Honor Blackman, who played the memorably named Pussy Galore in Goldfinger (1964). Some of the actresses are almost forgotten today, but many viewers will recognize Jill St. John, who was in Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Jane Seymour, who appeared in Live and Let Die (1973). Michelle Yeoh, who was in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and Halle Berry, who appeared in Die Another Day (2002), are among the interviewees best known to contemporary moviegoers. The interviews are conducted by Maryam d'Abo, who was in The Living Daylights (1987), one of two films in which Timothy Dalton played James Bond.

Although the tone of this bonus material is lighthearted and breezy, the interviews and clips shown inevitably raise issues about the way women have been depicted in James Bond films over the years. The thoughtful viewer will come away with a few points to ponder.
