Two Short Featurettes and Seven Deleted Scenes

There are two promotional pieces on the DVD — one six minutes long, the other eight — centering around Forest Whitaker, who portrays Amin in the movie. The more interesting of the two, titled "Casting Session — The Last King of Scotland," ran on Fox Movie Channel. In it Macdonald says he initially thought Whitaker, who seems like a gentle soul, lacked the aggression and anger to portray Amin. However, Whitaker auditioned by doing the scene where the dictator reacts to an assassination attempt, and the director became convinced he had found the right actor for the role.

Finally, the DVD contains seven deleted scenes with optional director commentary. The total run time of the seven scenes is 12 minutes. None of the scenes would have added much, but the first one, which shows Amin in a 1948 boxing match at a British army camp in the jungle, is impressive.
