Ice Age: The Meltdown

This animated comedy is the follow-up to Ice Age (2002), and the mammoth Manny (voice of Ray Romano), the sloth Sid (voice of John Leguizamo) and the saber-toothed tiger Diego (voice of Denis Leary) are back. This time around, global warming is melting glaciers, flooding the valley where these animals live. They must go on a trek to escape, and along the way they have adventures, meeting two possums (voices of Seann William Scott and Josh Peck) and a mammoth (voice of Queen Latifah) who thinks she's a possum.

An Inconvenient Truth

Al Gore, the former U.S. Vice President and candidate for U.S. President, presents his views on global warning in this op-ed piece. It's a compelling multimedia presentation with charts, graphs, photographs, archival footage, interviews, anecdotes, and other materials. Gore's earnestness and passion help him make a persuasive case that the world's climate is changing and we'd better try to figure out what to do about it. The film is intellectually engaging, and it's worth seeing whether you agree with Gore or not.

You, Me and Dupree

Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon star in this dramedy buddy movie. Carl (Dillon) and Molly (Hudson) get married and move into a suburban house. But Carl's longtime pal Randy Dupree (Wilson) gets down on his luck, and with nowhere else to go, moves in with Carl and Molly. Then Carl begins having problems at work with his boss, who is Molly's father (Michael Douglas). Meanwhile, Dupree turns out to be a very troublesome houseguest, and Carl finds his life spinning out of control.

The Ant Bully

The voices of Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep are among those heard in this computer-animated adventure film. The title character is a young boy named Lucas who torments a colony of ants, who turn out to talk and have a complex community structure. The wizard ant Zoc (voice of Cage) shrinks Lucas down to ant size, and the boy is abducted by the ants. Lucas meets Zoc's girlfriend (voice of Roberts) and the ant queen (voice of Streep), and the ants tutor the boy in the virtues of discipline and teamwork.

Clerks II

Directed, written and edited by Kevin Smith, this comedy is the sequel to Clerks (1994). This time around we see what became of Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) a decade or so after the earlier movie. Also, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) are still around. Dante and Randal still reside in New Jersey, but now they work in a burger joint called Mooby's, which is managed by Becky Scott (Rosario Dawson). Dante is now engaged to be married and plans to move to Florida.

Superman Returns

A series of four Superman films ran on the big screen from 1978 to 1987, and Superman Returns brings back the Man of Steel with different actors portraying the key characters: Brandon Routh as Clark Kent/Superman, Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane and Kevin Spacey as the villain Lex Luthor. This time around, Superman returns to Metropolis after five years away, and Clark gets his old reporter's job back. But now Lois has a son and a fiancé, and Lex Luthor is up to a diabolical scheme that will kill millions of people.
