The Extras on Disc Two
Disc Two of the 40th Anniversary Edition contains the one-hour-three-minute "My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers," which, the title notwithstanding, is basically a retrospective making-of documentary. Also, there's the 22-minute "On Location With The Sound of Music," which is about the Salzburg locations seen in the film. Other bonus materials include a 19-minute featurette where Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer sit together and reminisce about working on the film 40 years earlier; a 13-minute featurette about a Sound of Music sing-along event at the Hollywood Bowl; and a 40-year reunion by the actors who played the seven Von Trapp children in the movie.
Another documentary on the 40th Anniversary Edition is the A&E television program on the real-life Von Trapp family, which aired as part of the Biography series. This shows how Hollywood tinkered with the facts. For example, the movie makes it look as though the Von Trapps set out on foot over the Alps on their way to Switzerland, but the documentary says they walked to the local rail station and took the train to Mussolini's Italy.
