Blockbuster has announced it will soon deliver movie rentals and purchases to TiVo digital video recorders. But this Blockbuster service can be used only by those who have a broadband Internet connection to their TiVo box. Rentals are expected to be priced at about $4 each. Netflix subscribers can already get movies via TiVo at no extra cost, but very few of these are recent releases. In contrast, the Blockbuster-TiVo plan is to offer movies about a month after they come out on DVD, which would generally be earlier than their availability on pay-per-view. Blockbuster claims they will begin digital delivery of movies via TiVo in the second half of 2009.
