Blockbuster Downloads

From , former About.com Guide

Blockbuster rents movies and TV shows via download over the Internet, but not as part of any of its subscription plans. Instead, you have to pay individually for each movie or TV show you download. Rental prices vary by title, but are typically in the $2 to $4 range, with the more recent releases generally being higher priced. There are no membership fees or late fees. You are allowed to store a downloaded movie for up to 30 days, but you can watch it only during a single consecutive 24-hour period. However, during that 24-hour period, you can watch it repeatedly if you want.

You can download a Blockbuster rental to either a Windows PC or to a set-top box called the MediaPoint digital media player made by 2Wire. In either case, you will need to have a reasonably fast Internet connection, and download times will depend on the size of the movie and the connection speed. You can begin viewing a movie before it's finished downloading.

If you download using a PC, the simplest arrangement is to watch the movie on the computer screen. However, there are special connections and/or equipment that allow you to download to a PC and view the movie on your TV screen. Some of the ways of doing this involve media adapters, Xbox 360 and AT&T HomeZone.

But the MediaPoint set-top box is specifically designed to work directly with a television set in a straightforward manner. With this device, you can browse titles on your TV screen, download a movie to the set-top box and then watch it on your TV screen.
