Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe star in this slightly unusual vampire movie that was written and directed by the Australian twins Peter and Michael Spierig. Here vampires have already proliferated to the point where they dominate the world, but these immortal beings are facing a blood shortage because they have made humans into an endangered species. Edward Dalton (Hawke) is a vampire with a conscience who meets a small band of humans that includes a man called Elvis (Dafoe). Elvis may have found a cure for vampirism, and Edward sets out to help the humans.
Clint Eastwood directed this drama that stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. Set in the mid-1990s, the film is based on a true story. When Nelson Mandela (Freeman) becomes president of South Africa, he embarks upon a series of moves he hopes will ease the racial tension that divides his country. One of these is to try to unite the citizenry, which is predominantly black, in supporting the national rugby team, which is almost all white. To accomplish this, he allies himself with the team captain, François Pienaar (Damon), and the movie follows events as the team competes for the 1995 World Cup.
A faithful adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's bestselling novel, this is a bleak post-apocalyptic drama. The story takes place several years after some unspecified catastrophe befell the world. The skies are always gray and rainy, and the ground is barren. There are few human survivors, and towns and most rural houses lie abandoned. The traveler can go for days without encountering anyone. Through this desolate world a man (Viggo Mortensen) and his young son walk, hoping to find a better life. They scavenge for old canned goods and must avoid savage cannibals.
