Philip Seymour Hoffman stars in this gentle, intimate movie, in which he also makes his feature film directorial debut. The movie is based on an off-Broadway play, and three of the play's four principal actors reprise their roles in the film. Jack (Hoffman) is a socially awkward New York limo driver who relies on his friend and coworker Clyde (John Ortiz) to teach him life skills. Clyde and his wife (Daphne Rubin-Vega) arrange for Jack to meet Connie (Amy Ryan), a shy funeral home worker. The story centers on the romance that slowly develops between Jack and Connie.
