Winner of two awards at Sundance, this drama is co-written and directed by Debra Granik (Down to the Bone). Based on the novel by Daniel Woodrell, the setting of Winter's Bone is among the backwoods mountain people of the Missouri Ozarks. The central character is Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence), a 17-year-old forced to take responsibility for her two younger siblings and near-catatonic mother. Ree's father is a meth cooker who has disappeared, and the authorities are about to take the house if he is not found. Ree goes on a quest to find her father and must make some difficult decisions.
