Review:
"Muhammad Ali the Greatest" DVD

Guide Rating -
Pros  • Memorable cinematic style
• Exposition held to a minimum
• Captures the feeling of an era (1964-65)
Cons  • Almost no fight footage
• Some may not like the rawness of Klein's style
• DVD offers only one extra of any consequence
The Bottom Line - There have been several films about boxing great Muhammad Ali, but as far as I am concerned, "Muhammad Ali the Greatest" is easily the best of the bunch.

"Muhammad Ali the Greatest" DVD

"Muhammad Ali the Greatest" focuses on the boxing great in 1964-65 and 1974. One of the things I like about this documentary is that Klein didn't tidy everything up and he refused to pander to his audience. Much of the film has a rawness that made me feel as if I were actually there at the time instead of being given a cleaned-up, simplified version of events years after they occurred. The documentary doesn't provide a whole lot of explanation or interpretation of what's going on—you pretty much have to figure that out for yourself. There have been several films about Ali, but as far as I am concerned, "Muhammad Ali the Greatest" is easily the best of the bunch.
