"Strictly Sinatra" DVD
"Strictly Sinatra" is a quirky drama about a smalltime
Glasgow entertainer named Toni Cocozza (Ian Holm) who sings only
Frank Sinatra songs. When a local mob boss takes a liking to Toni's
singing, his dreams of making it big seem within reach. But Toni's
connection with the mob gradually draws him ever deeper into the
world of crime. Along the way, Toni meets the attractive Irene (Kelly
Macdonald) and falls in love with her. I liked the look of this
film, and I enjoyed its use of Rat Pack-style music. Ian Hart and
Kelly Macdonald make an appealing screen couple, and I found the
movie's ending, where the tunes "My Way" and "New
York, New York" are sung, to be very satisfying. However, the
parts of the film involving the mob seemed to me to be unconvincing.
