"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" DVDs
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" is one of those
event movies that has more than its share of fans, but I am not among
them. While I don't think it's a bad film in any way, it captured
my interest only sporadically. The story is about an 11-year-old boy
called Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), who studies wizardry at a
boarding school named Hogwarts. There Harry meets other youngsters
(played by charismatic child actors) and the quirky staff (played
by talented actors like Maggie Smith, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman,
and Robbie Coltrane). At Hogwarts, Harry plays the school's peculiar
game known as Quidditch, which looked to me like a video game rather
than an athletic contest. In addition, Harry and his new little friends
Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) have a series of adventures,
some of which are mildly interesting. Unless you're already into the
Potter world with its special terminology and rules, I give this film
only a lukewarm recommendation. |
