"Mulholland Drive" DVD I've admired some of writer-director
David Lynch's previous offerings, such as "Twin Peaks" and "Blue Velvet," but
I was absolutely mesmerized when I watched his noirish "Mulholland Drive" recently
at home on DVD. The dazzling visual style of the film and its fascinating soundtrack
combine to create a mysterious, otherworldly mood that makes this film very entertaining,
and I highly recommend it to almost anyone who likes movies at all. The story
revolves around a young woman (Naomi Watts) who travels from Canada to Hollywood
to break into the movies. She becomes involved in an ill-fated lesbian relationship
with a beautiful star (Laura Elena Harring), and her own career does not go so
well. I found the film difficult to understand upon first viewing, but it is worthy
of watching many times. I loved the seductive, dreamlike, noirish cinematography,
and I feel that "Mulholland Drive" is David Lynch's best film. |
