"Training Day" DVD
I love the performances of Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke in "Training Day," a character-driven police drama set in contemporary Los Angeles. Hawke plays Jake Hoyt, an ambitious young cop who is assigned to spend a training day with Alonzo Harris (Washington), a veteran narcotics detective. As Hoyt is surprised by Harris' highly unconventional law enforcement methods in one incident after another, the young cop senses the veteran is testing him. Gradually, the depth of Harris' corruption is revealed, and things reach a climax during a police raid on a drug dealer's house, where events orchestrated by Harris force Hoyt to make a fateful decision. When I watched "Training Day" at home recently on DVD, I found it to be completely absorbing right up until almost the end, when it went a little too far over the top for me. Still, this movie is well worth seeing, and I recommend it highly. |
