Wild Strawberries DVD
"Wild Strawberries" chronicles one long day in the life
of a 78-year-old medical professor named Isak Borg (Victor Sjostrom).
On that day, Professor Borg makes a long automobile journey from his
home in Stockholm to a university in southern Sweden to receive an
academic honor. Along the way, he has some interesting experiences
and his mind is flooded with memories, reveries, and dreams as he
tries to come to terms with the life he has lived. In my opinion,
the performance of Sjostrom, who was 79 years old when the film was
shot, is one of the most compelling in all of cinema. I also think
the film shows one of the most haunting sequences in any film: In
a nightmare, the aged Professor Borg sees his own corpse in a coffin,
and the corpse tries to pull him in. I am delighted to own the Criterion
Collection DVD of "Wild Strawberries," and I expect to watch
it many times over the coming years. Also, the DVD comes with some
nice bonus materials. |
