"Amores Perros" DVD
Set in Mexico City, "Amores Perros" recounts three interrelated stories revolving around an auto accident. The characters include a young man crazy in love with his brother’s teenage wife, a top model and her lover dealing with a tragedy that befalls her, and an aging bum who wants to do something nice for the daughter he abandoned. I must admit that the movie’s shootings, beatings, knifings, dog fights, and nasty verbal confrontations sometimes made me a little queasy. Yet first-time director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu somehow managed to combine contemporary visual techniques, pop music, and a nonlinear narrative structure with the humanistic storytelling sensibilities of the past to create a film that kept me enthralled throughout. |
