December 9, 2003 - Video and DVD Releases

"Assassination Tango"

 DVD

Tagline: "No one is more dangerous than the man who lives two lives."

Length: 114 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for language and some violence

Robert Duvall wrote, directed, co-produced, and stars in this drama. Duvall plays John J. Anderson, an American hit man who goes to Buenos Aires to assassinate a general. In the Argentine capital, Anderson becomes enchanted with the tango and the dancer Manuela (Luciana Pedraza). As he prepares to make the hit, Manuela teaches him the tango. The movie isn't so much about crime, dance, or romance as it is an offbeat character study.

"Bad Boys II"

 DVD

Length: 147 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for strong violence and action, pervasive language, sexuality and drug content

This action movie is the sequel to "Bad Boys" (1995), and Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are back as hip Miami police detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. Also, Joe Pantoliano returns as Capt. Howard, and this time around Gabrielle Union joins the cast as Lowrey and Burnett try to bring down a drug lord. But the film is really all about chases, explosions, and killings, and Smith and Lawrence are occasionally funny.

"Gigli"

 DVD

Length: 121 minutes

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck star in this strange drama, which was critically reviled and bombed at the box office. Affleck portrays the title character (pronounced ZHEE-lee), and Lopez plays a lesbian called Ricki. Hired by a mobster, Gigli and Ricki meet while guarding a kidnapped young man who suffers from something like brain damage or autism. Lopez and Affleck engage in lots of repartee as their characters try to sort things out.
