Part 1: This Week's New Releases on Video/DVD

There are some interesting video/DVD releases slated for February 25, 2003, including "Knockaround Guys," "Road to Perdition," "Tuck Everlasting," and "The Tuxedo." There are additional releases of interest, such as "Star Trek Deep Space Nine - The Complete First Season" and "The Twilight Zone - Collection 5." In addition, we'll take a sneak peek at next week's movies on video/DVD.

"Knockaround Guys" (2001)

Tagline: "How many friends can you trust with your life?"

Length: 94 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for violence, language and some drug use

This is a drama about young Brooklyn mobsters whose jobs take them to a small town in Montana. The cast includes Barry Pepper, Vin Diesel, Seth Green, Andrew Davoli, Dennis Hopper, John Malkovich, and Tom Noonan. Johnny Marbles (Green) is bringing a bag full of mob money back from Spokane, Washington, in his plane when he stops for refueling at Wibaux, Montana. There Johnny loses the bag, so Matty (Pepper), Taylor (Diesel), and Chris (Davoli) travel from Brooklyn out to Wibaux to try to get the money back. But the crooked local sheriff (Noonan) in Wibaux wants the money, too, leading to some cat-and-mouse games between him and the mobsters. There's quite a bit of violence in the movie, and Hopper and Malkovich portray senior mobsters.

    "Road to Perdition" (2002)

    MPAA Rating: R for violence and language


    Tom Hanks and Paul Newman star in this bleak drama about Depression-era mobsters in Illinois. Hanks plays Michael Sullivan, who was taken in years ago and brought up like a son by Irish mob boss John Rooney (Newman). Also, Rooney fathered a son named Connor (Daniel Craig). Now Connor works for his father, and Sullivan also works for Rooney and thinks of him as his father. A chain of events occurs that end up with Connor killing Sullivan's wife and one of his two sons. Most of the rest of the movie is taken up by Sullivan's quest to get revenge while protecting his surviving son (Tyler Hoechlin). Although Rooney loves Sullivan like a son, he chooses to protect his biological son Connor, resulting in a hitman (Jude Law) seeking to track down and kill Sullivan.

    "Tuck Everlasting" (2002)

    MPAA Rating: PG for some violence

    Based on the novel for young people by Natalie Babbitt, this fable-like movie is targeted at middle-school girls. The time is 1914, and Winnie Foster (Alexis Bledel) is a 15-year-old girl who lives with her parents in the small American town of Treegap. One day Winnie takes a walk in the woods and stumbles upon the Tuck family, which consists of 17-year-old Jesse (Jonathan Jackson), his older brother Miles (Scott Bairstow), and their parents (William Hurt and Sissy Spacek). It turns out the Tucks have looked and felt the same for many decades, ever since they started drinking from a magical stream. Soon Winnie and Jesse become romantically attracted to each other, and Winnie must decide whether to stay with the Tucks and become immortal or return to her parents and live a normal life.

    "The Tuxedo" (2002)

    Length: 98 minutes
    MPAA Rating: PG-13 for action violence, sexual content and language

    This is a Jackie Chan action movie. Chan portrays Jimmy Tong, a taxi driver who gets a job as the chauffeur to superspy Clark Devlin (Jason Isaacs). When an attack on Devlin leaves him incapacitated, Jimmy starts posing as the superspy. Jimmy inherits from Devlin a hi-tech tuxedo that gives its wearer extraordinary martial-arts capabilities and the ability to make great leaps. Meanwhile, the evil businessman named Banning (Ritchie Coster) has come up with a diabolical scheme. He will contaminate most of the world's water supply while maintaining control over a large supply of potable water, thereby forcing people to buy their drinking water from him at exorbitant prices. Then Jimmy and his hi-tech tuxedo team up with agent Del Blaine (Jennifer Love Hewitt), and it's up to them to stop Banning.
