Reese Witherspoon is charming in this fluffy romantic comedy that was a big box-office hit in its theatrical release. Witherspoon plays twenty-something Melanie Carmichael, a successful New York fashion designer. When Andrew (Patrick Dempsey), the handsome son of a prominent family, proposes to Melanie, she wants to marry him. But she's still married to Jake (Josh Lucas), a guy from her hometown of Pigeon Creek, Alabama, although they've been estranged for years. Melanie goes back to her hometown to try to arrange a hasty divorce, but Jake refuses because he hopes to win her back. As Melanie rediscovers the joys of small town life, her feelings for Jake are rekindled, and she must choose whether she'd rather be with Andrew in New York or Jake in Pigeon Creek.
