"Hiroshima mon amour" is an allegorical filmthe characters are archetypal and their names are never givenand I doubt that theres any single right way to interpret it. Of course, the fact that it defies simple interpretation is part of its charm. The movie is rather like a complex piece of music that every ear experiences differently. The film is a work of art that is essentially personal: what it means is unique to each person who watches it.
