“The X-Files - Season Nine” on DVD:

Please note: This profile of the DVD set is based on only discs one and six (partial screener received).

The episodes that I watched on disc one were worth watching, but their artistic quality was not up to what I remember of some of the show’s earlier seasons. Disc six of the DVD set has a variety of bonus features, including deleted scenes, a featurette on special effects, documentaries, TV spots, and DVD-ROM materials. The special features on disc six that I found most interesting were the deleted scenes and the special effects featurette. However, I wished that I had skipped the TV spots: there are over thirty of them, and they quickly became tedious.

Based on the episodes and special features on the discs I previewed, I was not impressed enough by what I saw to recommend buying “The X Files - Season Nine” DVD set. However, I’d venture a guess that the DVDs might be worth renting if you’ve enjoyed season nine and want to take a second look at your favorite episodes on DVD. But some of the show's more devoted fans might disagree with me and decide to add it to their DVD collection anyway. I noticed that in its Region 1 DVD prerelease, “The X Files - Season Nine” was a best-selling title on the Amazon.com site.
