I’ve always been a fan of "The Simpsons" and having a chance to see the third season on DVD was a special treat. This animated TV series has a fascinating mix of sharp satire, social commentary, and cartoon characters that are all too human in their imperfections. I found that watching Bart, Homer, Lisa, and the rest of the Simpson family coping with life in Springfield was laugh-out-loud funny and sometimes touching. Series creator Matt Groening’s sensibilities may not be to everyone’s taste, but to my mind, there is an underlying humanism to "The Simpsons" that helps to balance its sometimes irreverent tone. Before watching the DVDs, I hadn't seen "The Simpsons" in a long while and had forgotten just how sharp and funny it can be.
