"South Park - The Complete Third Season" DVD Review

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Ivana Redwine, About.com

The Bottom Line

I found "South Park - The Complete Third Season" to be both a delight and a bit of a guilty pleasure. The humor is definitely for grown-ups and can be crass, tasteless, and decidedly politically incorrect. That being said, I confess I was thoroughly entertained by the DVDs and these very qualities were part of the fun.
Pros
  • Laugh-out-loud funny throughout and can be hilarious at times
  • Good to excellent sound and picture quality
  • Includes mini-commentaries by Trey Parker and Matt Stone
Cons
  • Not a DVD set suitable for the entire family and is recommended for mature audiences
  • Not for people who don’t like cartoons
  • The humor is for grown-ups and can be crass, tasteless, and un-PC (could be a pro)

Guide Review - "South Park - The Complete Third Season" DVD Review

I found "South Park - The Complete Third Season" to be both a delight and a guilty pleasure. I’m well aware that the kind of skewed creative imagination displayed by the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone may not be to everyone’s taste. But when I’m in the right mood, it certainly is to mine. Just on the off chance you haven’t heard this anywhere else, let me tell you "South Park" may be offensive to some people, including those who aren’t usually easily put off by material that can have an unabashedly nasty edge. The humor is definitely for grown-ups and can be crass, tasteless, and decidedly politically incorrect. That being said, I confess I was thoroughly entertained by the DVDs and these very qualities were part of the fun.

The look and feel of the animation on “South Park” has a deliberate artlessness, but the picture quality on the DVDs makes the simple shapes and bright colors look about as terrific as they ever will. The DVD set contains all episodes of the third season and also includes optional mini-commentaries by the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone as a bonus feature.
