Guide Review - "Monsoon Wedding" DVD
Directed by Mira Nair, this film is a joyous celebration of life that centers around a big wedding in India. When I watched this movie on DVD recently, I found it to be enchanting. Although the predominant tone of the movie is light, there are some dramatic elements as well. The marriage is an arranged one, but the pretty bride-to-be is having an affair with a married TV host and the groom lives in Houston, Texas. There's also a heartwarming thread where the wedding coordinator becomes smitten with an attractive housemaid. I found "Monsoon Wedding" to be a feast for the eyes with its dazzling color palette. Also, I liked the Indian music used in the film; it very nicely complements the visual style and subject matter.
