Guide Review - "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" DVD Review
This romantic comedy was a big hit in theaters, and I loved it on DVD! Nia Vardalos, the movie's star, originally developed the story based loosely on her own background. Toula Portokalos (Vardalos), an unmarried, thirtyish, plain-looking Chicago woman is surrounded by her overpowering Greek family, including her parents (Michael Constantine and Lainie Kazan). Toula falls in love with Ian Miller (John Corbett), a non-Greek, and as they move towards marriage, Toula must reconcile her love for her family with her love for Ian. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is not a perfect film, but I thought it had the rare combination of humor, warmth, and romance that so many filmmakers try for but seldom achieve. I found it to be a delight.
