The Bottom Line
Especially with the added appeal of having the band KISS being accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, this was both an intriguing and entertaining concert preserved on DVD. Given that the visual and theatrical nature of KISS is more compelling than the way they sound, this DVD set is a way to enjoy this concert even more fully than is possible by simply listening to a music CD.

Guide Review - "KISS - Symphony: The DVD"
Especially with the added appeal of having the band KISS being accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, this was both an intriguing and entertaining concert preserved on DVD. However, one thing that I eventually found maddening was the short-attention-span style of video editing and camerawork which often quickly cut between shots of the audience, the band, and the symphony orchestra. To make matters worse, most of these shots were so similar in both length and subject matter that it became akin to a form of visual static. But, all in all, the DVDs are worth watching and often quite enjoyable. Given that the visual and theatrical nature of KISS is more compelling than the way they sound, this DVD set is a way to enjoy this concert even more fully than is possible by simply listening to a music CD. In addition to Web links, the two-disc DVD set includes a documentary featurette with rehearsal footage of KISS and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
