"Bowling for Columbine" DVD Review
While I don’t entirely endorse Michael Moore’s views and methods, I rate “Bowling for Columbine” the best documentary I’ve ever seen.

"Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" DVD Review
To my mind, this film offers a fascinating look into a man’s life and the pop culture of an era—both of which were badly in need of a reality check.

"Bend It Like Beckham" DVD Review
I liked that "Bend It Like Beckham" is a warm human story that’s also flat-out entertaining. The movie is rather lightweight, but it really lifted my spirits.

"24 – Season Two" DVD Review
This smart and often gripping mix of suspense and drama immediately drew me in. I am intrigued by the unusual dramatic structure, which defies my ordinary expectations of a TV drama.

"Xena: Warrior Princess - Season Two" DVD Review
Although some episodes didn't draw me in completely, I had a lot of fun watching "Xena: Warrior Princess - Season Two" on DVD.

"Family Guy - Volume Two" DVD Review
Although its brand of humor may not be to everyone’s taste and the show is a little uneven, when everything works right, the "Family Guy" is fast, smart, and side-splittingly funny.

"The Dancer Upstairs" DVD Review
This film is slow-moving and murky at times, but I found it thought-provoking, and I was intrigued by its main character as played by Javier Bardem.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" DVD Review
I found “The Two Towers” to be highly cinematic moviemaking and mythic storytelling. However, it’s basically an action-adventure movie, and for me some of the action sequences became tedious.

"The Simpsons - Season Three" DVD Review
I've always been a fan of "The Simpsons" and having a chance to see the third season on DVD was a special treat.

"Chicago" DVD Review
Although "Chicago" is not fully satisfying as a musical and is unnecessarily choppy, I found it enormously entertaining and laugh-out-loud funny throughout.

"Futurama - Volume Two" DVD Review
“Futurama” can be just plain silly at times, but it’s also often funny and well-written with lots of wit and smart satire. I laughed loud and often watching “Futurama - Volume Two” on DVD.

"The Quiet American" DVD Review
Because of its compelling mix of the political and the personal, along with Michael Caine's superb performance, this movie drew me in completely.

"Daredevil" DVD Review
I found that "Daredevil" was an entertaining movie despite its flaws, including an unsatisfying dramatic line and a “cute meet” scene that’s so over-the-top it’s just plain goofy.

“Solaris” (2002) DVD Review
“Solaris” is sci-fi without action sequences, razzle-dazzle special effects, or gee-whiz high-tech gadgetry, but I found the movie to be very intellectually engaging.

"Hiroshima mon amour" DVD Review
Alain Resnais's influential, innovative film is moving, compelling, and lyrical. I hadn't seen it in years, and after watching it on DVD recently, I was amazed at its resonance and complexity.

"Solaris" (1972) DVD Review
Even though there's little action or impressive special effects, to my mind this movie is cerebral science fiction at its very best because of the humanistic and moral issues it explores.

"Wings of Desire" DVD Review
Some find this film flawed and pretentious, but I do not. I think "Wings of Desire" is an imaginative masterwork of world cinema.

“Gangs of New York” DVD Review
“Gangs of New York” is not quite at the level of Martin Scorsese’s best movies, but it’s still a stunning achievement. I like the film’s operatic look at American life in the mid-19th century.

"King of the Hill - Season One" DVD Review
I really enjoyed this satiric look at the daily life of Texan Hank Hill and his family in this hilarious animated TV series created by Mike Judge ("Beavis and Butthead," "Office Space").

"The Hours" DVD Review
I found "The Hours" to be emotionally and intellectually engaging, and I thought the performances of the 3 leading actresses were terrific. But the film may speak mainly to those who love novels.

"Narc" DVD Review
"Narc" is a B-movie, but I liked the way it captured the gritty world of narcotics cops. Although fast-paced, the film gave me enough about its characters that I cared what happened to them.

"Son of the Beach - Volume One” DVD Review
“Son of the Beach” has something to offend almost everyone, but it is also laugh-out-loud funny throughout. But it’s not for kids or for anyone who’s easily offended.

"DarkWolf" DVD Review
Despite featuring gratuitous gore, "DarkWolf" is a horror movie that’s not scary. Although it has a few entertaining moments, this movie seems cynically conceived and has no redeeming artistic value.

"NYPD Blue - Season One" DVD Review
With its fascinating characters, compelling performances, and strong stories, "NYPD Blue – Season One” on DVD drew me in completely. I think this is one of the best TV police dramas ever made.

“8 Mile” DVD Review
It took a while, but “8 Mile” eventually drew me in. I liked the way director Curtis Hanson mixed elements of a coming-of-age story with class struggle, and Eminem has the right screen presence.
