Pick of the Week: Casablanca DVD
Casablanca is beloved by a wide cross-section of Americans, and it's been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember. This seems to me to be one of the relatively few films that is highly regarded by both cineastes and the general public alike. Judy Garland is at her most winsome in Meet Me in St. Louis, the glorious Technicolor movie that ushered in the golden age of the MGM musical. I think the film would be worth seeing just for the production number The Trolley Song alone, and Garland's haunting rendition of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is unforgettable. At last this great classic movie gets the DVD treatment it deserves. It looks and sounds terrific, and it comes as a two-disc set loaded with extras.
