Guide Review - "Signs" DVD
Mel Gibson stars in this sci-fi thriller written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Gibson plays Graham Hess, a widower who lives on a Pennsylvania farm with his two kids and his adult younger brother. Hess was formerly a Christian clergyman, but he has lost his faith. One day the Hess family finds large, unexplained crop circles in their farm's vast cornfields. Strange things happen that suggest the possibility that extraterrestrial aliens may be preparing for some sort of an invasion. I think that Shyamalan's genius lies in his ability to evoke an atmosphere of ominous dread. Even watching the movie at home, I almost jumped out of my seat a couple of times. But I found the films plot to be predictable.
