The Bottom Line

“Dark Angel” is entertaining and especially good-looking on DVD. I liked the sci-fi noir feeling of “Dark Angel,” yet the overall story never completely drew me in.

Guide Review - "Dark Angel – Season One" Six-Disc DVD Set

Created by James Cameron, the first season of the TV show “Dark Angel” is entertaining and especially good-looking on DVD. I liked the sci-fi noir feeling of “Dark Angel,” yet the overall story never completely drew me in. I wonder if a streamlined version of “Dark Angel” wouldn’t have worked better as a feature film. Max (Jessica Alba), a genetically enhanced human, escapes from the Manticore project that created her to be the perfect soldier. She becomes a bicycle messenger in Seattle, a city that has been thrown into an economic depression after terrorists set off an electromagnetic pulse. She hopes to be reunited with other escapees from Manticore and finds an unexpected ally in dissident cyber-journalist Logan Cale.
